Welcome to Ruru Cottage
Relax on our peaceful
and quiet 8 acre lifestyle block and enjoy the stunning views over our
native bush which is home to some of New Zealand’s native birds such as Tuis, Fantails, Woodpigeons and Rurus
(also known as Morepork Owls). You also have views over the lush surrounding farmland and
are only minutes away from the beautiful Kawau Bay Beaches and local award
winning Matakana vineyards.
Ruru
Cottage is the ideal place for
families or people who would like to get away from it all! We are remote
enough so that you can wake up to the singing of birds but also only
minutes drive from lovely beaches, shops, bars/restaurants and the
surrounding Matakana vineyards.
Our property is a paradise for
children with bush to explore, paddocks to play in and an extensive
outside play area in our little orchard with trampoline, sandpit, and jungle gym.
Meet our friendly animals: Hiney the
dog, Slinky the cat, and not to forget our chickens, cows
and pigs!
The cottage itself is no fuss, brand
new and self contained. It has two spacious bedrooms upstairs and an open
plan kitchen/dining/lounge are downstairs as well as a bathroom.
We will supply your breakfast
provisions such as fresh free range eggs from our chickens, bacon, bread,
cereal, fresh fruit, jam & honey as well as tea, coffee and juice of
course. You can then cook your breakfast at your own leisure either in
your kitchen or on your BBQ.
Feel free to stroll through the
orchard and pick the fruit. Depending on the season we have apples, pears, nashi pears, plums, peaches, mandarins, oranges, grapefruit and guava
berries. All our fruit is spray free!
We are only 1¼ hours from Auckland
Airport so an easily managed drive after your arrival or before you fly
out. The fabulous Matakana Vineyards are 5 minutes drive.
The area here has plenty to offer
from relaxing on the many beaches (some are particularly safe swimming
beaches for small children) or surf beaches, beautiful walks, fishing &
diving, boat tours, shopping at the local Matakana markets and arts and crafts
stores or just kicking back and sampling the delicious wines of the area.
You will be spoilt for choice!
We are both keen travellers
and always eager to hear your stories and adventures. We can tell you the
"special places" to visit in Mahurangi and Matakana. Peter is a local and knows the
area intimately. Birgit immigrated from Germany to New Zealand in 1994.
She has worked in the travel industry and knows many of New Zealand's best
kept secrets. Both English and German are spoken.
As Birgit is a specialist for New Zealand she
can also help you with your itinerary, tell you about the best places to
go and visit and help you maximise your time in New Zealand and your visit to this area.
